The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is set to acquire land for Urban Estate Eco City 3 in New Chandigarh. The authority is set to acquire 720 acres for the project and is awaiting the CM’s nod.
In 2014, GMADA officials conducted a Social Impact Survey, and they found that most farmers were interested in selling their land to the development authority.

Land will be purchased by GMADA in the villages of
- Rajgarh (42.13 acres)
- Majra (6.5 acres)
- Takipur (113.34 acres)

Rajesh Dhiman, GMADA’s additional chief administrator (ACA), stated that the initiative is still in its early stages and that the modalities are being worked out. A good response was received to the Eco City 2 plan about three years ago. According to officials, the new programme would be introduced for the middle class’s advantage.
Eco City 3 New Chandigarh (Land pooling Scheme)
The land will be acquired on the basis of land pooling policy, as per which, for every acre, landowners will get 1,100 square yards of industrial plots and 200 square yards of developed commercial plot, excluding parking, instead of cash compensation.
Apart from this, the GMADA is all set to launch its seventh independent township, Aerotropolis Mohali, which will come up on 1,653 acres near Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport on both sides of the Banur – Zirakpur on Patiala highway.
The authority is working to launch the development works in the last week of January and complete them in six months, following which the plots will be earmarked and the scheme will be offered to the public.
An extension of GMADA ’s Aerocity, it will comprise both commercial and residential plots in four pockets – A, B, C and D. Expected to be around 8,500 in number, the residential plots will range from 100 to 2,000 square yards.
